Based on English Education in Canada by a parent or sibling
This certificate is generally issued when one of the following conditions are met. Firstly, the child’s parent must be a Canadian citizen and:
- the child’s parent has received the major part of their elementary education in English while in Canada; or
- the child’s sibling has received the major part of their elementary OR secondary education in English while in Canada; or
- the child themselves has received or is receiving the major part of their elementary OR secondary education in English while in Canada; or
- the child’s sibling or parent already holds a certificate of eligibility.
Please note: Education received through private schools in Québec is assessed through a point system according to Bill 115. Please contact Riverside School Board.
Please note: The Supreme Court ruling of March 31, 2005 stated that Education received in a French Immersion Program in another Canadian province is now considered to be English for the purpose of eligibility. The education, however, must have been done in a school that is recognized as an English school. The percentage of French versus English will not be taking into account; therefore, these students will be eligible for English instruction in Québec.
