On October 1st, Cedar Street School welcomed a very special guest—Canadian Space Agency astronaut Jeremy Hansen—who inspired students with his remarkable story and mission. He shared insights about his career as an astronaut, the exciting journey of space exploration, and the importance of perseverance. Hansen encouraged students to never give up, to ask for help when needed, and to understand that success requires teamwork. His positive message of resilience and collaboration resonated deeply with the entire school community.
During his presentation, Hansen gave students a fascinating look into what it’s like to live and work in space, explaining the challenges astronauts face, how they train for missions, and the incredible technology involved in space travel. He also highlighted the importance of space exploration for the future, sparking excitement and curiosity among students.
He briefly explained his mission patch, which reflects the objectives of the Artemis II mission, where he will make history as the first Canadian to fly to the Moon. Hansen’s patch, designed by Henry Guimond of Sagkeeng First Nation in Manitoba, carries personal significance for him and will accompany him on his mission to the Moon.
Jeremy Hansen is set to embark on the Artemis II mission, the first crewed flight test of the Orion spacecraft, launching on NASA’s SLS rocket. This historic mission will mark an incredible milestone, as he becomes the first Canadian astronaut to ever venture to the Moon.
